The Barber Quarter was struck from 1892-1916. It’s called the Barber Quarter because U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Charles Barber provided the design—after being part of the panel that rejected over 300 designs from the public and other designers. Then he chose his own design! Here you have a ten-piece of Barber Quarters that features ten different dates and mint marks, ranging between 1892 and 1916—including the popular 1912 Barber Quarter, sought-after because it’s the year the mighty Titanic sank.

These coins have been jingling in pockets for over a hundred years, and the last one was struck 16 years before the first Washington quarter. Perhaps that's why many people don't even know they exist! The obverse features a bust of Liberty wearing a triple headdress—a hat, a laurel wreath, and a small crown with her name. Most of them were in high circulation and were worn or melted down to extract the silver content during times of high silver prices.

The coin features Lady Liberty wearing a crown of olive branches and a small headband with the word "LIBERTY" engraved on it.
